Bavarian cream, blueberry, or plain
I couldn’t make up my mind
As the cash register added up a lady’s order
“And I’ll pay for what she’s having too”
I looked up
She was pointing at me
Me, the cop, in uniform
Indecisive over my kolache
I felt slightly embarrassed
“Oh, you don’t have to do that.”
“But I want to as a way to say Thank You for all you do”
I was humbled
And greatful
And, well, if felt good
So rarely do we get thanks
“Oh, Ok, thank you so much.”
I went with the Bavarian cream
And a light roast to wash it down
Once in my squad car, coffee cup secured in the cup holder
I looked up to see
Her
Standing on the curb
Waiting for the bus
Oh dear...Thank you, thank you

Author's note: True story, happened last week. I love stopping by this little neighborhood coffeehouse once or twice a week during my shift. I've never seen this lady before and not since. I was truly humbled when I saw her waiting for the bus.
