I’m Still Learning

I admit it, I’m a total amateur with Photoshop Elements. I take baby steps with my editing, as you will see. I joined in today with Pixel Perfect’s Before and After.

Here’s my SOOC shot:

Yes, that is my Cubbie, mosquito bites and all!

And here is my edited shot:

I used PSE 8. I first lightened the mosquito bites with the Spot Healing Brush Tool, then played with the levels a bit until I came up with this. What do you think? Any thoughts on what might make it better? I’m totally open to suggestions.

Oh, and by the way, I have a Canon T1i and used my 50mm lens.

* * * * *

PSssst…keep your eye open for a little surprise I’m going to be giving away on Monday. Here’s a hint:

Because it might just be someone’s one year blogging anniversary on Monday…;-)

You did a great job with this edit! His eyes really pop. I'm also a newbie to PSE 8, but I feel like I learn something new each time I go on there.

Don't you love the 50mm lens? Love it. You might have changed the opacity of your spot healing brush and made the mosquito bites disappear altogether. But I'm learning that's a hot button for some - altering children's photos. Anyhow, your focus is on the eyes which is good so I think he eyes already stand out. Good job! He's a cutie!

You did an excellent job sharpening his eyes! I'd maybe bump the overall exposure a little?

I am amazed how you make the mosquito bites disappear. Thats what I noticed first. And he has such gorgeous luminous eyes. I think you're doing a terrific job with photo shop. Better than I have been, actually. Oh, I try my best but it just isn't as good as yours!

I don't know what you're giving away but I can say its pretttttty!!!! I love the colors!!

I hope to see more pics soon!

I am new to PSE too and am very intimidated by it. Have you downloaded any actions yet? Coffeeshop has some great free actions and check out Pioneer Woman - there are free downloads there as well for PS Elements. I love actions, but really don't understand them that well.

Here is a site with free video tutorials: http://www.alibony.com

Cute little guy you have!

G'morn, sweet friend ~
You are good, I have NO clue on how to do anymore than TYPE words & add a pic to a blog. Hubby would choke if I asked 'how to' as it would mean work for him, frustrating work with me.
Chuckle!, but so true.

I love the pics of the kid-lings, you capture them so beautifully.

Have a beautiful weekend ~

Gorgeous! His eyes are SO dark ... I love it!

I am with you girl. I am still learning PSE and am an amateur at best.

I wish I had advice, but I am still figuring it out. One thing that has helped me a lot is my discovery of the color curve.

Your little one is precious.

His eyes are beautiful! I wish I could offer you advice on Elements but I've got nothing! haha I use lightroom and I'm only just now using a trial on Elements.

Emmy said...

Very cute picture! Great focus. I use lightroom, so can't remember how elements is set up, I would maybe increase the brightness of the overall image a bit. Plus to make the eyes really pop I think there is a wow eyes brush that you can run over the eyes to make them more amazing than they already are.

I haven't ever gotten into editing photos. People keep telling me I should! Stopping from the Mom Loop!

Well by all means, I have no room to comment on how to edit a photo. So I'll just comment on how cute he is :)

He's a cutie! I think you did a great job on the picture, but I'm not even an amateur so not sure how much my comment helps, lol!

You're the second person today singing the praises of 50mm lenses. The only reason that's notable is I'm actually not from the before after hop, but instead Mom Loop's Friday Follow. I'm an amateur photog and photoshop junkie. Just take a look at how great I look in my facebook photos for proof. ;) Anyway, a pleasure to see you again. I'm already following you on GFC & Twitter. Have a lovely weekend.

I'd love to learn how to edit my photos. I do a little bit in IPhoto but mostly just taking shadows off my subjects.

Really good job on that! And he is SO cute.

I use a Photoshop knock-off but am having a ball with it. Still only using my iPhone, but hopefully Santa has a great camera in store for me for Christmas? I'll see... :)
