The Turtle Whisperer

My husband loves turtles, he has since he was a boy. If he sees one trying to cross the road he will stop his truck, jump out, scoop it up, and help it into the weeds on the other side.

The problem…he does this with us inside! I keep reminding him that the lives of his children and wife are slightly more important than that of a turtle.

I think I have him convinced…

So yesterday, on the way to the county park, when my husband spotted this baby painted turtle…

taking its sweet time getting across…

he jumped into action!

The boys named him Frank.

Oh doesn’t he looked ticked! It’s okay, just giving you a little help, buddy.

Once we got him safely to the other side, he didn't want to come out!

But eventually, he made a break for the brush and off he went. See ya Frank!

Awww... That's sweet. I totally stop to help a turtle too, ya know, if we had them crossing the road here in Cali :)

Me toooo! I love box turtles. I've been known to rescue turtles from the middle of the country highways I drive. I actually love reptiles in general...even snakes. But let's not tell that one. People look at me weird and won't be my friend. :)

Thanks to our last camping trip, I learned a lot about turtles! The painted ones have either the orange undersides or a paler yellow one, which is more indicative of my area. Who knew I would use my knowledge of turtles so soon? :)

Great photos of the turtle! He's so tiny looking. I've helped turtles across the road too. :)

I just wanted to say Hi, your husband would be thrilled that we spent 5 minutes trying to get the hook out of our turtle last weekend so we did not hurt it.
This morning I was blogging and thought about mama guilt monday and wanted you to know I was thinking about you. I am enjoying your new blog

I had the pleasure of witnessing a release of hundreds of baby sea turtles this summer into the ocean....so this especially made me enjoy Frank!!! Hope he survives the wild.

I love the pictures. What a cute little turtle. I always want to stop for the turtles, too. Our roads are way too dangerous with blind hills and turns. We would surely cause an accident. I do say a little prayer when I see one trying to cross the road.

These are really great shots! I always want to stop and wait for them to cross the road too, but I'm too much of a wuss to actually get out and touch one. :)

FRANK! That cracks me up. That is a classic name for a turtle. :-)

G'morn, CM ~ My girl friend does the same thing when we are travelling together ... I am grateful she does, but I don't 'touch' critters. How cute they named Frank. Great pictures.

I have stopped traffic literally on the freeway because a gigantic black snake was crossing & I'd danged if I was going to run over him ... had some pretty upset traffic behind me.

Have a beautiful week.

daniel does the same thing. only he'll bring it home and let it go in the country so it won't get ran over.
he likes turtles like no other creature for some reason!

Great shots of Frank! How cute. I think it's sweet that your husband will stop to help a turtle out. Most men would never do that. But yeah, maybe park in a safe spot for you and the kids. ;)

Good Morning Sweetie...
Oh I adore Frank. He is soooo cute. I can see why DH feels a need to rescue the turtles. When living in Oklahoma I was the same way. The rains seemed to bring them out.

Every year we had a contest. Each grandchild and child when coming to Daddy's fish fry would bring a turtle. We each painted an initial with polish on the shell. Then Daddy would take the water hose and make a big circle in the backyard. Each of us would take our turtles to the center and let them all go at the same time. We had turtle races, and it was so much fun. Of course at the end of the evening they were all released, it was just for that one glorious evening and one race. What fun it was. I miss those days.

Please tell your husband, I saw so many flattened turtles, that I see where he is coming from, but could he please make sure he pulls over to the side of the road, so that you all are safe too. He can do both things at the same time. I can see the little child in him as he picks up each turtle and takes him to their new safe haven on the other side of the road.

Beautiful share sweet friend. So beautiful. Many hugs and so much love, Sherry

P.S. I am your newest follower. Now I can see your posts come up. Thanks for the tip sweetie. Love ya.

Great pictures! When I read the title of your post I thought sure it was one of your nature loving little boys...much to my surprise it was a nature loving bigger boy! That is very sweet that he takes the time to do that. I love the "ticked" picture!
