What About the Victims?

I fight for justice

EVERY DAY

And none is found

No one is held accountable

All are free

To terrorize our society

And the court system

Where deals are made, plea bargains arranged

The lightest sentence, if any at all

But what about the victims?

No one listens

No one cares

As they bravely testify and relive their horror

For what?

A protection order that is only as strong as the paper it is written on

* * *

(Ok, I had a bad day at work and this is what came out for One Shot Wednesday. Don’t hate me and NO OFFENSE to ANYONE who may read this. I’m just venting here!!!)

Venting is okay. Poets do that a lot. Nice one.

Everyone is allowed to vent...you have said it well and I hear you my friend. Thanks for sharing and hope it's better the rest of the week.

I'm sorry you had a bad day. But I'm glad you could vent it into a really powerful poem. Yes, it does seem that society is for everyone but the victim at times. Glad there are people working hard to correct that imbalance - like you.

Not even sure what to say to that! From personal experience I know its true, but my ignorant hopes are still high as I continue to work toward my criminal justice degree.

Keep venting, lady :).

Yep, I've had bad days too. You summed things up quite well. I applaud those who speak up and go to bat for the victims. No one else will.

sometimes we just think we fight in vain...had to think of daniel powter's bad day when reading your poem...maybe you just need a blue sky holiday...and things will clear up a bit..

What a powerful poem!
I hear the injustice and the sense of powerlessness in every line.

So sorry :(. I understand though, I used to work for DCFS and tons of my cases involved domestic violence. Not too mention the horrible things that happened to the kids

What better place to vent the truth - exposing social injustice has always been shouldered by writers.

Thanks for venting on One Shot

I will not get on my podium about the injustices that prevail ... but for you officers of the law I fell such compassion. You do your job well & the system fails you & your efforts to protect & provide for the public.

So sorry you had a bad day, sweetie.
Hugs, Marydon

I'm sorry you day was bad. Your words do not offend, they speak the truth. Sad commentary, and oh so dangerous to many.

I agree! I see this even in the junior high school where I work. Society in general does not expect people to be accountable or responsible for their actions.
