This past weekend, we headed out to one of our favorite campgrounds.
The challenge, though, is finding enough for a two and four year old to do.
Going down the local waterslide…not tall enough.
Tubing down the river…I think not.
ATV riding in the backwoods…um, no.
And yes, there is a playground at the campgrounds, but after spending literally HOURS on the equipment, their imaginations run dry.
So what’s a mama to do???
Build a race track!
Thanks to a large campsite and campfire wood, this kept my little guys quite busy.
Sprout, the competitive one, took the race quite seriously.

Cubbie just wanted to make sure Mama didn’t stray too far.
We had a good time and good weather. Just don’t look too carefully at all their welts aka mosquito bites!

I am heading over to see you & you are writing on mine ...
G'eve sweet friend! The boys are such beauties. I love their 'track' & trucks. It is nice to see that they use their imaginations & are having a grand time ... not done much anymore what with all the technology available.
I so remember all the wonderful moments of creating our own fun & using our imaginations.
How blessed you are ... how blessed they are to have you both.
Have a wonderful week.

What a fun race track. My kids would have loved to be racing with yours. Looks and sounds like you guys had a blast! I am so glad. :-)
A little parental ingenuity goes a long way in occupying kids. Nice move there mom.
That's a great idea!!! Next time we go camping I have to remember our big trucks. There's lots of dirty jobs to be done while you're camping!
Your boys' mosquito bites are NOTHING. You should see Zachie's legs--they look like he has chickenpox!
Aren't you the clever mom? They really never grow out of racing, you know. My little boy (33) loves to race.
what a great idea! i can't wait to take the kids camping but it's going to have to cool off a lot more around here. Love the pics!
What a cool mama! I am so glad I am past the entertaining stage! But of course I can't wait to take Mater (my grandson) camping!!!
ha. camping witht he kids is always fun...so cool you built a racetrack...very inventive CM...we would probably get lost int eh woods and have fun doing it...smiles.
Oooo - you ARE one creative Mommy! Great idea! Isn't camping fun? Some of our greatest memories are camping memories. We've gone every summer at least once - many times more than that - each summer since the kids were toddlers (and now are teenagers). They love it. And, as they get older, the things they CAN do increase. Just wait! It gets more and more fun!
I want to write a handbook on camping. I think it would be really useful. I have a load of cooking ideas and packing ideas that would be useful to share.
brilliant!! sounds like a good time was had by all!
We have the same problem with a five and three year old! But somehow, we manage to keep them occupied. The mosquitoes are horrible this year!
How adorable are they? I imagine that kept them busy for a while. I know it kept my brothers busy when they were young. Looks as if you had a great time.
That is just the coolest idea ever!!! You should submit that as a tip to a magazine!
Seriously big fun happening. I have to ask though, the the PINK camper get to go camping? (sorry, I had to). I'm with Esther on the bites. Jack's SS teacher actually came and found me during church to ask if he had chicken pox (which I wish he did...but alas, no)!!!
My son would race all day if I built that for him! Great great idea. Glad you had fun
Sweet pictures... looks like you are a momma with great ideas!
cm - your boys are so cute - and they look like they really enjoyed the race track you built for them...
Love it! Great job Mom! Being creative often gives the biggest paybacks.
These shots would also be perfect for the In a Yellow House theme. I love how they created a little track for their trucks. Adorable.
what a fantastic idea! great photos too!!! what great memories for the boys.
Smart Mama!! Looks like fun. After this Summer I am in love with camping, I can't wait to take the kids again next year...lots! :)
