Snow…in July?

I’m a runner.

Not competitively, not anymore. I’m old, at least my knees are.

I cherish every chance I get to fit in a run. Luckily, my work allows us PT (physical training) time three times a week.

So yesterday, when I had a window of opportunity to go for a run, I took it. The fact that it was at 1:30 in the afternoon and 89 degrees out…well, no matter, I needed my “high.”

Off I went, down the sidewalk, under the trees, and into the bright, humid sun. Forty minutes later, chanting to myself, “You can do this,” I focused on every step. My water deprived body shouted, “Stop,” but walking wasn’t an option.

Two blocks away from my work and slightly delirious, out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of something white floating in the air. For a millisecond, my dehydrated brain thought, “It’s snowing!” Once I was able to think logically, I realized…it was cotton from the cottonwood trees!

I stumbled back in the building, crawl-walked up the stairs to the locker room, and sprawled out on the bench.

Why do I do this to myself? Because…I’m a runner.

Beautiful capture!

I have tried to get into running time and time again. My husband enjoys running but I just can't get into it. Unless someone's chasing me.

My friends that enjoy running often talk about the "high" they get...I have tried..one block in I feel the burn, my brain starts telling me to turn back and the rest of the run no matter how long or short it is is consumed with me telling myself I am crazy for running any where in the first place.

Runners amaze me. I never got it or could do it, but I always wanted to be one of those people who ran for hours outside. I think I would hit delirious after 3 minutes. The cottonwood trees do that here too. It looks cool, but kills my allergies. :)

Oh how pretty! Does it make a big mess though?

I'm glad you got your runner's high in! I wish I were a runner. But I can't seem to get past the pain--chest constricting, throat burning, legs feeling like they're tied to a ton of bricks. Maybe one day...

You do it because you should. It's good for you, and being in shape may come in handy one day.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who carries a camera out and about.

@ Courtney, BM, and Matty

Thanks, but it's actually a public access photo from Photobucket. The photo links right to the site. Just FYI, I want to be sure credit is given to the right person :-)

Good for you to keep going even when it hurts. I have a pretty hard time with running, but I am doing my best. I normally turn it into a brisk walk.
I'll keep trying though.

I run whenever I get a chance but I can't get used to it. I have to admit though that I feel great afterwards.

Oh girl!!! How I wish I was determined enough to be a runner. I am just TOO LAZY!!! There is something about someone who is focused enough and strong enough to push through the pain... I just cant get there.

But MAN I would have died if it was snowing! :) And sadly, might not have been to surprised! ;)

Be blessed-
Amanda

You scared me for a minute there! Partly because I thought it was really snow and then partly because you were hallucinating! LOL

G'morn CM ~ Another fabulous write. My goodness, you should always take water with you (the Mother in me coming out for your sake!) ... my son is a marathon runner (he's old) & he always take water 'just in case'.

So glad you are ok, sweetie. Don't push yourself in this heat.

Have a lovely summer's day ~
