Saturday Centus

Jenny Matlock

Here is my entry for the 100 word writing meme over at Jenny Matlock’s blog called Saturday Centus. The writing prompt is in bold.

** This is FICTION **

"Are you sure that's the one you want?"

I felt a little lump in my throat as I peered down at my choice, held tightly in my hand. I didn't think this would be so nerve-wracking. Was I making the wrong decision? I couldn't agonize over this any longer.

I took a deep breath before managing to say, "... Yes, it is."

The right caliber, it fit neatly inside my purse.

Will he be there? It’s a risk, but one I was willing to take to protect my family.

This must end.

As I sat in my minivan, baby car seat in back, I watched as the Learjet taxied towards the stairs.

Black suit, power tie. Steven’s distinctive gait noticeable even from my vantage point.

“I am done.” I told him.

“Sorry, you are too valuable to the operation, I can’t let you go. Not yet.”

Predictable answer.

The shot echoed through the hanger.

And I walked away.

Just FYI, one of my hobbies is writing. I hope those of you who have come to know me more as a “mommy blogger” don’t mind my musings, however dark or weird, crazy or silly.

That is a great little tale. It is hard to get into a plot in only 100 words, but you did a fabulous job!

Is there anything you can't do?

Awesome! That was great! I'm impressed that you captured that much of a story in that few words.
I love to write too. I may have to check out this meme and play along sometime.

Seems like the makings of a great thriller to me. When can I expect to find it in Borders? :-)

One of my hobbies (that I'd love to turn into a career!) is writing. I think I'll join in this great writing meme this weekend!...

Have you tried the One-Minute Writer meme? I like to participate in that on a regular basis to get my creative juices flowing!

Really nice and tightly written. I too suspected that this was going to be about a wayward/abusive husband. What a great twist! Kat

Nicely done! Loved the sentence which had us visualizing the mini van, the baby car seat and the Learjet all at once!

I laughed when I saw your disclaimer of "This is Fiction". I have thought of doing that myself!

I was late with my submission this week, but I hope you will stop by and read it!

What a great, tight little story wrapped around the prompt.

It's amazing what you accomplished in 100 words or less!

I feel like I just read a novel!

Awesome link!

I'm glad you went with the gun... I almost did. I appreciated the car seat in the back seat line.
