I Planted Flowers This Year!

I’m so excited! This is the first year since having kids that I’ve been able to plant flowers. My boys are finally at an age that they can play for short periods of time without needing me within reach. So, when the weather finally cooperated, DH, the boys, and I headed out to the little flower stand down the road.

Once home, I thoroughly enjoyed the gritty feeling of rich planting soil between my fingers as I gently arranged my little blooms. And made a complete mess, dirt everywhere!

Now, flower connoisseur, I am not. I pick them based on COLOR! I know, I know…not the right way to do it. I don’t even pay attention to the little charts that tell you how far to space them. I guess I just leave it all up to chance.

Don’t you just love the contrast of blue with yellow. Well, except that the yellow flowers (no clue what they are called) are overpowering my little blue pansies. So much for chance!

What are YOUR favorite flowers to plant in the Spring/Summer?

They are beautiful! Nice color palette.

Here in south Texas, my favorite flower to plant is anything that will survive the heat and that the deer won't eat!

The flowers are beautiful. I generally pick out flowers for their color too. When I am looking for groundcover than I go by how much sun/shade they need.

Gorgeous photos!! You seem to have my gardening style- whatever colors you like, not specific plants. :)Although, I do seem to gravitate towards the same flowers every year. I should get a garden post up. I want to share about my HUGE hasta plants and my flower baskets I have hanging up. Those were a first for me. I didn't want to spend $25-40 on a hanging basket so I put soil and flowers in a basket myself! :)

Those little yellow guys are snap dragons.

They are wonderfully bright.

My favorite flower has to be the tulip -- they're the only ones I seem to be able to grow :)

Beautiful flowers (and pictures)! We plant begonias; they seem to do well here.

Oh they look wonderful. I am just like you. A total haphazard gardener. I don't even know what I plant, I just pick what I like :)

The yellows are snapdragons, & they are lovely. They remind me of Mother & her beautiful gardens full of them.

My favorite flowers are lilacs, roses & violets ... but for my massive gardens I have too many beauties to name them all. I'll be sharing pics here soon, tho. I love to garden ... just me, nature & God ... my special private time to not be bothered.

I still get a kick out of Sprout's pics.

Have a lovely summer's eve, sweet lady ~

Vivid pictures. Beautiful. I love the blue and yellow which are the colors splattered in my decorating attempts around my house. Love the new blog, too.

Those are snapdragons. If you snap the flower off, then squeeze the sides, they'll open up and "talk" to you. My kids love it when I do that! Pretty flowers, friend!

Great flowers! I love the yellow and purple together...currently the hanging basket of pansies my mom got me for Mother's Day lays wilted outside. Sigh...perhaps next year?!

Beautiful! My grandma always had beautiful flowers and a wonderful garden. Some of my favorite flowers were her snap dragons (like your yellow ones).

I love Tulips, Hyacinth, Russian Sage, Day Lilies, and Irises. Not to sound redundant as I know you've received quite a few compliments already, but the photos and flowers are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
