This is Cubbie and I last fall, out for a little hike.
Yes, I know, I don’t post pictures of myself very often. But friends, you have to understand, due to my profession, I have to be careful. This week, not only was there a story in the news about a mi1itia group targeting police officers, but then there was the website I mentioned yesterday. I have to, at all times, keep not only my safety, but the safety of my family in mind.
I love being a mom blogger. I love meeting all of you. I love reading your blogs. But there are times that I second guess being so open about being a cop. Every once in awhile, I even consider taking this thing down for fear of the unknown. I post pictures of my kids. I write about my life. Yes, I don’t use my real name and I don’t say exactly where I live, but any internet savvy person could figure it out if they wanted to. Plus, I have to keep my department in mind too.
That being said, I am a Christian and God did not create me with a spirit of fear. Everything I do on this blog is from my heart and hopefully, with God’s blessing. I have found a wonderful community of online moms (and a few dads!) that I enjoy having read my blog and I enjoy reading theirs.
In the end, I guess I will just continue to walk a fine line of being careful what I post without being too paranoid. I love sharing my photos and stories and just plain goofy stuff sometimes! That’s just me :-)

a wonderful pic...love taking the boys out into the wilderness. i hear what you are saying. if we live in a spirit of fear, its not much of a living. we do have to be wise though. will say an extra prayer for you today.
my best friend is a cop, and actually i am waiting to meet him for coffee right now...
My favorite photo thus far.
You don't have the spirit of fear. You are exercising the wisdom of Proverbs.
What a lovely photo! As a mother I can totally appreciate your concerns & feel that protecting family is of the utmost importance. Life is not meant to be lived in fear...but just as Brian says..being cautious...as you are, is wise!
I have only been reading your blog for a little while & I really enjoy it!
We would miss this little corner of the blogging world if you left! But I understand your concerns.
It's a wonderful photo! I love taking hikes with my kids.
I can't tell you how much I love this picture of you and your little guy!
@ Everyone - Aw, thanks, you guys are so kind! I wasn't trying to be a big downer here or anything. I've just had this on my mind lately and decided to blog about it. Thanks for your support!
That is a wonderful picture of you both. Bless you for sharing yourself in spite of all that goes on. I love that Bible verse about a spirit of fear. So very true.
That is a beautiful picture. One you will cherish forever. Sweet!
I can totally understand your concerns but please don't quit blogging ever. You've become a special friend! PS. 3/4 of my family was on that site yesterday and I removed all the profiles. I REALLY appreciate you telling us about it.
That is a beautiful pic of the two of you.
I think it is a shame that people want to target police officers like that. I don't think they understand the sacrifice and hard work that goes into your job. If they did, they would be thanking you instead.
@ Blueviolet - oh dear, did I really sound like I was going to quit blogging? I hope not! I was just expressing my concerns and what crosses my mind sometimes. If I ever change anything, maybe it will be to change my name to something less obvious. But no plans in the near future to do that!
I think you do a great job of balancing private and public aspects of your life. Keep up the good work!
Such a great picture! I also worry sometimes about posting pics of my kiddos or sharing too much. So far I have only met wonderful people though, and I am hoping it stays like that!
What a great picture of you two. I really appreciate that you told us about that site yesterday. I had 3 under my married name and I hadn't go to my maiden name yet. If it wasn't for you a lot of us would have never known about that site. Thank you again for looking out for not only you and your family but everyone else in the bloggy world.
Great moment you captured with your little man. We can't really see your face clearly, but only that you must be lovely.
:)
Love the picture!
When I saw the article about the police thing on MSN I felt like my heart stopped. Not in our neck of the woods but still ... made me look through my posts to make sure I'm not letting too much slip through.
Great reminder about not having a spirit of fear. Applies to so much!
Such a sweet picture! And yes, it is sad that there has to be that fine line. But glad you don't live in fear, that would be no way to live at all
Great photo. And great words! You are so right...God did not create us to run in fear and hide! I have the same thoughts as you. Well, I'm obviously not a cop, so not exactly the same. But I have questioned being so open on my blog and desiring to keep my family safe from any creepers that may lurk. But in the end, I have such a desire to do what God created each and every one of us to do...glorify Him. And I will keep doing that through my blog. You keep it up too girl! :)
I think that one some level, we all share the same fear. It is a very fine line to walk.
But that is a gorgeous photo.
what a wonderful precious picture! I love it!!
Totally understand about the privacy thing.. ultimatly you have to look out for you and your kids!It is a very fine line and one I think about every time I post pics.. even htough of going private.. just a scary world out there sometimes
beautiful capture, I understand your concern, your safety and your family is utmost important.
That's a great picture. I understand how you feel. I've always tried to be careful about to giving out too much personal info on my blog.
I love the picture. Did your DH take that one?
I don't care what you say, you have a great figure. Have you ever really looked at yourself?
We all want you to be safe... and as for pictures... I totally understand. I have never really liked pictures of myself.
I totally agree, my dear. You need to be safe, especially in your profession. I hope you haven't gotten any comments about it and that's why you're mentioning this. But I don't think many if any people would think any less of you for not sharing your true identity.
If it becomes more of a concern for you, maybe you could talk to someone at 'QC'? about the legalities of the blog and how to stay safe with it while still sharing your heart. And also, what you can and cannot share as a cop.
I know for me, my job isn't as open as yours (meaning, my face is only seen by 10 people every day), but they have strict guidlines for what is shared on the web. So I don't even share where I work for fear of sharing something I shouldn't.
Don't worry...I will protect you...always. :)
Great picture, I love pictures taken so candid.
what a cute picture! and, I've had those same feelings about being so open on our blog. not as a cop, but just as a mom posting pictures of my kids. but, you can pretty much google our names and get all kinds of info about us from church websites. :) so I figure, what's a blog! I'm sure I would do things differently if I was in your shoes too. Enjoy your posts!
That is a very special, very lovely picture. Thanks for sharing it. And by the way, I appreciate from a personal point of view your particular dilemma about how much to reveal, how much to protect.
What a sweet pictures. I understand your fear...but good for you to live life anyway!
Beautiful picture...and I appreciate you wanting your privacy and family to be safe. :)
I think we all understand about the personal/privacy/safety issue!! I have chosen not to post photos of my kids, family, or really any photos period. I saw one mom post some photos ~ without people in them! ~ of a cafe she visited and I immediately said "Oh, I know exactly which cafe that is."
I LOVE that picture, so sweet!
I agree it really can be scary sometimes but like we talked about before if people want to know they will. I think you do a great job and I am glad you are staying, cause I love your blog! And you! :)
I know what you mean. I was a Deputy Sheriff for many years and I had to be very careful about privacy. Too many weirdos out there. I'm not a cop anymore but I'm still careful not to share my city, employer, last name, etc. I wish we didn't need to worry about this stuff -- but we do.
Stay safe!

I heard about that militia group and their plans. It's just awful anymore how it seems to be open season on the police. I think that as long you are careful about what you post, you'll be okay.
Great picture of the two of you. It sure is frame-worthy!
I know the feeling about worrying about safety on the net. I am not a cop so I can only imagine how heightened your feelings on the subject are.
I try to be mindful of what I post and, of course, I use pen names for all of us and don't reveal where we live...but, as you say, anyone can find out in a couple of clicks these days.
You can never be too careful. Just follow your gut, like everything in life, and you'll be FINE!
This is such a wonderful photo! I can understand your concern, my hubby doesn't feel comfortable with pictures on my blog either if our girlie is in them. We pray for the safety of those that help protect us! Thank you for what you do! I really enjoy your blog too!
