Why talk about "Mama Guilt," you ask? Because I think it’s good to share our Mama Guilt so we know we are not alone. We all struggle in this wonderful, chaotic, ever challenging thing called motherhood! See the MckLinky at the bottom of this post to link up.

Here’s today’s optional prompt:
Tell us about a time you did something absent minded as a Mom!

Here’s mine:
Friday afternoon, just as I was about to leave work, a Commander came in my office. He needed to discuss details of a case…for the next HOUR! I finally logged off my computer and started gathering my things, hinting that I needed to leave. He finally got it when I put my jacket on. I bolted out the door and into the parking lot because I had to get to our day care before it closed.
As I drove away from work, I kept replaying the Commander’s words and what I’m going to do next in my investigation. Suddenly, I realized I had missed the turn for the day care! And not just by a little bit, but by a quarter of a mile! I had to get off the busy highway, turn around, and head back.
Luckily, I made it before my provider closed, but still! Talk about Mama Guilt! I have to admit, sometimes I have trouble turning work off even after I leave HQ.

Wow. But I wish supervisors and coworkers were more mindful of the duties of parenthood.
I forgot to pick up my daughter from middle school once. I just went on home. I heard about it for a while-I must say.
I think we all have mama guilt. We want the best for our kids.
That is a tough spot to be in....I have been in lalalala land and missed turn off's too many times to count it sucks when that happens. Thank god for cell phones at least you can call and let them know you are on your way.
i hear you...it takes concious effort to let work go when i come home int he evenings...
I did the exact same thing on the way to pick up my middle son from preschool not too long ago! I started thinking about all the stuff we had to get at the store and drove right passed the road!
My mama guilt this week is crazy!! I have SO many baking projects and obligations that I have been relying on TV and marathon coloring sessions to get me through... Bad Mom!!

It is scary how little we actually pay attention when it is a driving route we know.. I have done things just like this.
Oh how I hate that dropping by at the end of the day deal. Great story!
I empathize. Been there, done that at work. There were times when my mind was so engrossed in my work while driving home that I'm driving on auto pilot and missed where I was going.
I do stuff like that all the time. Its like I am half there when I am driving.. super scary!
Please tell me why it is that supervisors or anyone for that matter waits until 445 to come in and discuss something when 500 is quitting time. Drives me crazy!
Enjoy those precious boys :)
I had a mom get all the way home and start dinner before she remembered her daughter was at my house last week. SCARY!!! You did goot with 1/4mile!
I have had my fair share of missing turns or even just loosing track of time and being a little late for school pick up! yikes!! we are all human... but I feel so horrible making my kids wait for me! =)
I remember it being hard to not think about work when you're suppose to be home with the kids, Matt does the same thing...he is always thinking and talking about work. You are NOT alone! :) Glad you made it on time!
Opting to comment though I love the idea and so am going to reserve Mondays for this...
Oh where to begin. I think today is just the perfect day to let my daughter consume waaay to much screen time. I've popped in video after video just so I can grab a bite to eat and shower before dinner. We all have our days so thanks for this.
PS I've totally done that on my way home (not daycare) and had to turn around - ugg. It usually meant I was spent and had a long day. Now being that I stay home, I think I end up walking into a room and wondering why I went there in the first place.
My boss always seems to turn up when I'm packing up to go collect the girls. (V. annoying!)

PS - I LOVE your cute new Mama Guilt button! :)
"Mama Guilt" is my middle name! ha. I'm trying my best so I guess that is comforting!
Yes, my 'Mama Guilt' is not having said NO to my children enough while they were growing up, seeing to it they never had to do without, they came before us always ... it back fired big time, once I learned to say NO ... we still pay the price.
Happy spring.
Have a beautiful week.

This hasn't happened to me, but it's happened to my husband. His mind is always on work, but I can see why.
Have a great week!
brutal! good thing you've got the art of non-verbal communication down...not so good that ol' commander does not pick up on it sooner...and i have actually driven past my street when deep in thought. imagine the accidents we may cause!!!
SB
not too serious i hope
I have sooo done that before!
You're great. I love how you think your little transgressions are worth all the guilt. Just means you are a terrific mom! Really though...totally something that has happened to me. I didn't feel guilty so much as irritated at having to back track. What does that say about me? ;)
I'm glad you made it in time. Seems the Commander kept chattering in your head even after you left.
I can't wait to link my story of momma guilt. It cant be found at http://mydeartrash.blogspot.com/2010/03/seriously-used-crib-tent.html.
Thanks for your great blog.
