“Mama Guilt Mondays” Meme

Mama Guilt Mondays

Why talk about "Mama Guilt," you ask? Because I think it’s good to share our Mama Guilt so we know we are not alone. We all struggle in this wonderful, chaotic, ever challenging thing called motherhood! See the MckLinky at the bottom of this post to link up.

Here’s today’s optional prompt:

Picky Eaters: What Do YOU Do?

* * * * * *

Here’s mine:

Spaghetti O’s and condensed Chicken Noodle Soup.

I never thought I would give my kids such processed, canned foods. But over the past year, I have found myself buying them more and more. Talk about Mama Guilt. I know better! But come dinner time, if I’ve already tried giving Sprout five other good foods with no luck, and I don’t want him to go to bed without eating, what am I supposed to do?

That’s why, this past week, when Sprout asked to have a “tree” (broccoli) from DH’s plate, we were more than happy to oblige. Check this out:

Broccoli 1      Broccoli 2

Broccoli!

Sprout now asks for it on a regular basis! I am hoping this is finally a step in the right direction.

I think my kids eat chicken nuggets a little too much, but if that is what they will eat what can you do! My boys do love broccoli though...we call it dinosaur trees at our house:)

Sigh. My "baby boy" is 14 and still won't touch broccoli - tree or no tree. lol Homemade mac n' cheese? Now that's a different story...maybe I can mince some broccoli and try to hide in there...nah - he'd find it! ;)

Good for Spout! Hopefully he won't change his mind about broccoli!

Awesome breakthrough with the "tree"! It's my first time going Mama Guilt; thanks for hosting such a fun meme!

My kids are like Kelli's. Chicken nuggets rule! Seriously, my boys would eat chicken nuggets every. single. day. if I let them. So we have them about 3 days a week for lunch! Broccoli is a huge hit in my house. That is about the only veggie the kids will eat consistently. Except for salads. All of mine love salad.

I don't have kids, but I distinctly remember my grandma feeding me "trees," and making them more appetizing first by holding them upright on my plate, shouting "TIMBER!!" and then making them fall over! Somehow, this made us want to eat them! Go figure!!

I have a couple of my children who are picky one that will not eat any meat besides hamburger and another that does not like pasta we used to try to get them to eat but now suffice by fixing them something else

First time I'm linking up with you on this...also am thrilled you can get broccoli down with the "tree" name. We have tried with no success. Maybe in time who knows.

Congrats! I have one that eats broccoli like it's going out of style and one who turns her nose up at it. I'm hoping she'll come around eventually...

I've never been able to get mine to try broccoli - but we are making a lot of headway on the green beans and even peas now and then!

I'm visiting from on a pink park bench - when I saw the topic of your post today I just had to come over! My daughter is three and still eats a very limited selection of foods. Like you I set out determined to feed her "good" things but in desperation have resorted to serving up what she will eat. Which is cereal bars, raisin bran and cheese for breakfast. Pasta, Pizza, Chicken Nuggets or Breaded Cod for lunch and dinner. She also likes deli ham, turkey and corned beef, sometimes eats yogurts, sometimes bananas which are the only fruit she will eat and yes, she likes broccoli too which is the only vegetable she will eat. So many toddlers seem to love broccoli (have you noticed it is on so many restaurant kids menus as a result these days). So I hate to tell you your son eating broccoli is not necessarily a sign of a big change coming in his eating habits! She also likes raisins and goldfish. She will not drink milk or juice and only drinks water so we have to resort to Vitamin D and Calcium supplements. The only good thing is that she does not like candy or chocolate or ice cream (have you ever met another child like that???)

So you are not alone - just wanted to let you know!

Broccoli! That's great! The only veggie my picky eater will eat willingly is carrots. But since she's six I just make her sit at the table until she's tried everything. If she's eaten it before and I know she hates it I only serve her a bite or two. That way she still tastes certain foods on a regular basis. Some things she's decided she really does like after all. Except vegetables, she never likes vegetables.

Gosh, I didn't even like broccoli until I was an adult! That's awesome that he does!

I'm 28 and I still call broccoli "trees"! I only eat the "leaves" though. I refuse to eat the "trunks".

Wha...huh?? Can soup no healthy?? Lalalala! I can't hear you!

They DO like broccili (thank goodness) but otherwise, I really don't get my panties in a wad about food. I am happy when we HAVE food in the house and I don't have to run to the store...

Yea! Glad to see him eating that broccoli! My kids are picky. (So was I) They eat a lot of chicken nuggets and fish sticks, but I keep putting other things on their plates and they keep getting better and better at trying them.

I have one broccoli eater and that's it. Sprout looks SO cute eating his!

My boys were picky eaters when they were little but they do grow out of it! My boys, now men, eat anything and everything they can get their hands on. Not fussy anymore!
When they were little I used to grate carrot, zucchini, onion etc into the bolognaise sauce, rissoles & meatloaf.
I made vegie fritters, which were mostly mash potato & went down a treat.. although they were always slathered with tomato sauce.
Home made banana custard.
Apples grated into cakes etc... all sneaky ways of getting some good stuff into them when they're small.

Sprout is so cute!

I am a bad mom because I think dogs and kids - they both eat when they are hungry enough! I just always had too many kids around to worry about who wouldn't eat what. My poor kids! LOL! It used to be really bad but they are much better about "no thank you bites" now. Plus I grew up with a mom that said' "here are your choices - eat it or don't!!!" I was doomed!!!

Mrs4444 said...

Enjoy it while you can; mine used to eat broccoli, too :) Something about the taste buds changing...

my one year old is the pickiest. let's just say she knew a thing or two about sugar since before she was one. yup.
I am not who I thought I'd be as a mama....but whatever works.

I have two incredible eaters and one picky eater who decided to be a vegetarian as a baby! We have decided to not worry about too much because he is the healthiest of our children!

That's GREAT!! I get so happy when Alexa tries something new or asks for carrots for a snack instead of begging for crackers...doesn't that feel good!? :)
