Mindlessly driving to work yesterday, the song “Legacy” by Nichole Nordeman came on. Suddenly, the weight of these lyrics were on my heart:
I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love? Did I point to You enough
To make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace who
blessed your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy
It made me think, What is MY legacy?
Do I chose to love? Am I leaving a mark? Do I point to God enough?
I don’t know that I always do, but I try. I’m not perfect and still a sinner saved by grace. Everyday, in small and big ways, I try to touch others and let Jesus’ love shine through me.
So how about YOU? What is YOUR legacy? Take a moment RIGHT NOW, just ten seconds, close your eyes, and what is on your heart? What is YOUR legacy?
I’ve included the video in case you haven’t heard/seen this song. It’s absolutely beautiful!

I think of this all the time. In actions, in words and in the history of our lives.
I just came here from reading about Layla Grace. Two very thought provoking blogs to start a beautiful Saturday morning. I think I'll choose to make a difference today and point towards Jesus!
Thanks!
I love, love, love this song! Thank you for sharing it with us and for making me think!
I've never heard that song before - I honestly don't listen to enough new music...or enough music in general. :)
Thanks for sharing it...It truly is a beautiful song and makes me realize what is really important - how we impact the lives of others for the better!
I love this song.
Thank you for the reminder. I needed that today.
Stopping by belatedly from Friday Follow and I'm glad that I did! What a great song - thank you for sharing it. PS - I'm now following your blog!
i want them to look back at my life and know that i loved deeply and was willing to give a small peace of my heart to anyone that needed it...
My obnoxious computer won't let me listen to it, but I think I know the song you are referring to.
My answer is, I try, but I know I fail often. Still I know God can use our shortcomings too, so I hope that someday people will say that I helped point someone in Jesus' direction.
What a beautiful song!! Thanks for sharing!! 4 years ago I had to have neurosurgery for a birth defect they found at age 36. For me it made me realize that they only thing I can leave is my relationships. My goal in living to make sure that my family and friends know how much I loved them and how much I loved life. That realization has kept me honest and living a 'real' life. I am blessed.

I think about this a lot...a difficult and complicated thought...but at the same time easy to say you want to leave a positive mark on your children and the earth...but How? is the hard part. I didn't know this song, however, and it is beautiful!
every time i hear this song I cry. It's so beautiful and moving and powerful. One of the best.
I heard her sing at a Women of Faith conference several years ago - if you've never been to one, I highly recommend it!
@ Everyone - thank you for your wonderful insight. It's always nice to see how a post can affect others.
@ Shalunya - blessings to you, my friend.
@ Sharon - I love the Women of Faith conference!!!
My legacy will be the fact that I always gave to people more than I took.
I have this song on one of my WOW cd's. I love it (and hate it because I cannot sing like that).
I don't know about my legacy, but I hope when think of me it is positive and uplifting. I hope that I am a witness everyday for Jesus and can be a light for just one person.
I love this song, and Nicole Nordeman. I was lucky enough to see her at Women of Faith a few years ago, and have been hooked on her music ever since. She has such thought provoking lyrics. I am not perfect either...Made me really stop and think today about this. thanks!
My Legacy is to love. To point my kids to Jesus. We'll start there.
I am now following you. ;)
That's a beautiful song! I don't know what my legacy is, but I hope that I'm teaching my daughters to follow Jesus and that they won't stray from their faith as they grow up!
I've never heard this song before but I like it.
I'm not sure what my legacy will be. Hopefully that I loved and forgave in all seasons.
I hope my legacy is that we can overcome and learn. Sometimes life gets to be a bit much, and it's the ability to hold on to hope that'll get you through.
I want my legacy to be that I was accepting of those others did not.
this song ALWAYS gets me thinking...i have it on my blog now.
our lives are not just for us...we are here for others...to love, serve, protect :).
thanks for the reminder!
Hi, sweet friend ~ I have sinned, I learned a strong lesson from Him not to sin. He made my life different in so many ways ... for this I am so grateful.
My legacy, I do hope ~ that all will remember I never expected nor asked for myself ... BUT I pride myself in doing for & giving all I can to others, without expectations. I so enjoy giving ...
Have a beautiful week ~

I want my family and friends to remember me as always being willing to give, to help those in need, to making this world a better place in my own small ways.
