I blame Target.
It all started the day we received the toy insert in the mail. Sprout pounced on that like, well, a three year old.
AND then it happened, he came upon a toy camper, a PINK girly camper that talks and sings and says some tree hugger type mantra....I digress, sorry, just a little miffed.
He HAD to have it. He was so excited, he ran over, insert in hand, and had to show me this PINK camper he fell instantly in love with.
See, we love camping (take a look at our camper here) and Sprout cannot wait til spring to go again.
So now, whenever anyone asks him what he wants Santa to bring him, he says, "A PINK Camper."
Now, I'm open minded and the first one to allow my son to play with whatever toys he wants. We don't force gender rolls on him but somehow, he and his brother have just naturally gravitated towards trucks and cars. But a PINK girly camper with flowers and whatnot???
So, like any good parents, my husband and I have SCOURED the toy sections of various stores looking for more of a "boy" type camper, to no avail. At least nothing that is three year old proof with a 18 month old baby brother messing with it.
What's a mama to do? Give in and get my little guy his PINK camper that his heart is set on? Or try to distract him by getting him interested in something else more "boy-ish?"

Too funny!! Maybe you can convince him to let you guys paint it a different color. I know how adamant three year olds can be, though!
@ Amy
Thanks! My DH actually thought of that, but since Sprout is adamant about his PINK camper, I don't think he'll be too happy if we paint it.
Go for the pink. Snug's favorite color was pink for a L O N G time. But now he colors everything with black. Colors HARD with black. I'd rather he have a bit of a feminine color fettish than quite so "goth". Besides that, Baby Jesus looks like a blog of tar on every Sunday School paper!
I don't think it will hurt him to have a pink camper, and someday you can give it away to a little girl.
Ha! I have no advice for you, but I'm curious to read what you decided to do - buy it or leave it ;-)
@ Kate
I'll have to do an updated post once we decide...thanks for the advice :-)
Let him have the pink camper. My grandsons favorite color for a very longtime was purple. when he painted in pre-school everything was purple. He is 8 now and loves green. Go figure
I agree. Let him have the pink camper, I think it's perfectly fine. Plus, don't they make a camping Ken? It's an ACTION FIGURE! (And Emma can come over and play with her camping Barbie. They'll be one happy family.)
Oh, I think you should buy the pink one. He will love it and play with it so much. Be sure to take a ton of pictures. Then blow them up to poster size when he is a teenager so all his friends (and girlfriends) can see him completely in love with his pink trailer! Hee hee. I am all about Mommy Payback!
I'll never forget the horror in my brother's voice when he called me from the toy aisle in Wal*Mart. (Bro) "J wanted WHAT again?" (Me) "Littlest Pet Shop" "Are you aware that it's pink?" "Dude, I don't care at this point if the pets poop on the floor, and if the POOP is pink. It's all the boy has talked about for weeks!" "But. Megan? It's PINK." We still laugh about that one a lot! And he played with it forever. Get it for him. It'll be ok!
I agree with your other readers...yep go for the pink! Maybe you can get some NRA stickers for it...snort! GI Joe would look rockin' in a pink camper! OK...this is just too much fun. Please let us know how this little saga turns out...with pictures please! Kim
It's too bad he doesn't have a sister, that you can blame it on the reason why you guys have it. Our boys have had pink toys and our girls blue.
Although there WAS a big age gap between #1 (girl) and #3 (boy) after #2 being a boy and he(#3) REALLY wanted this like 300 dollar toy kitchen to cook in one Christmas (not the same as a pink camper, I know) and my husband about lost his mind spending that much on a girl toy for our boy, but I did! He loved to play cooking and I wanted to foster his hopes and dreams.
Do what your gut says...not society!
Ahhh...go for the pink camper! My son loved putting on makeup and dresses until he was about 8. I was worried for a while though...I'd love him just the same though.
Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!
Those Target mailers get me in trouble all the time. I would probably buy the pink camper, but my hubby would freak!
Happy SITS Sharefest!

My daughter has the pink camper.. when i asked what she wanted santa to bring her she responded... "a boy camper"...lol I said I dont think they make one... which is not fair.. I have a son thats 2 she is 4... she says if they have a pink one they have a blue one too! lol
If you do a google search for "Playmobil camper" there is a cute camper that is available that looks geared toward boys. If it were me, though, I would totally just get the pink camper!
Like everyone else - I'm voting for the pink camper! I have a great picture of my now 15 year old son in Dorothy sparkle shoes and a blanket tied around him. His version of Batman I think! He'll get over it, so will your husband!!
THat's hilarious. My son wanted pink shorts forever. He was begging for them. By the time the only family member who would buy them for him found any, he hated pink. It's so funny the stages they go through.
